Batteries within 3 Royal Horse Artillery have existed from the Napoleonic Wars. However, the Regiment was only formed in 1938 from 3rd Brigade Royal Horse Artillery.
They are the firepower behind 7th Armoured Brigade - The Desert Rats - using the AS90, the newest and most advanced 155mm self-propelled artillery gun in service with the British Army.
They are currently based in Caen Barracks, Hohne, Germany
